How long have you been in business?
University Office Equipment was incorporated in 1974. A re-branding to University Office Technologies (or utec, as we are affectionately known) is currently underway.
What is your primary product or service?
utec offers document management and output solutions, which can include both hardware (mulit-functional copying devices, traditional printers, etc) and/or software to integrate those devices into your document workflow.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
The leadership team at University has been in this business anywhere from 15 to 35 years, depending on which of us you're talking to....we've done and seen a lot over the years!
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
There is not another locally-owned and operated copier distributor in Washtenaw county. The money local businesses spend with us makes it way back into the local economy more quickly than with any of our competitors. Ours tend to be more strategic, long-term relationships with our customers, as opposed to decision making that is not in the best interest of the buyer.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We operate from a single location at 4872 Washtenaw Avenue, and while we may add additional offices, the plan calls for our headquarters to always remain in Washtenaw County.

What type of payments do you accept?
utec offers equipment for cash purchase or we have a number of attractive leasing offers. For service, we accept all of the traditional forms of payment found in a business-to-business environment.
Which areas do you service?
utec services Washtenaw, Livingston, Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. As an authorized Sharp dealer, we are able to place equipment for branch offices of local business located throughout the world.

utec is open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. We have service arrangements available to customers requiring service beyond our normal business hours.
